Wall Street Journal on Big Business and Breastfeeding

The WSJ has looked at how nursing-friendly American workplaces are. It is an interesting article…and the comments are well worth reading too.

  • Oh there are some great comments!

    From the idiotic:
“I’m sorry, but that is disgusting. If you have to pump milk, go to a private, discreet location and don’t tell anyone (e.g. the bathroom). Clear it with your boss first. And for God’s sake if you store it in the company fridge, make sure it is in a non-see through container or bag!

    To the practical:
“For those who are disgusted by milk in the community fridge. Most pumps do come with a thick-walled cooler and an ice pack for transport, so I don’t think you need to worry. But I do think that I have seen MUCH more “disgusting” things in workplace fridges than milk in a closed bottle!

    To the insane:
“More to the point, we need to be mindful that by allowing breastfeeding into the workplace is going to raise the question of what else is allowed.

    To the positive: (my favorite!)
“I work for a large corporation, but my department is housed in a small, off-site location with two conference rooms. One conference room became my “lactation room” for a year. During that time, I also left work at lunch to breast-feed my baby at daycare. Everyone I worked with treated this as a normal part of motherhood.
