The Upfront Torpoint Breastfeeding Group have some (nearly) newly trained peer supporters so that means they have a fresh set of eyes and skills on hand to review the running and planning of their group.
They run from the Children’s centre in Torpoint, Trevol Road. Every Monday from 1pm – 3pm, everyone welcome expectant to experienced, siblings also very welcome and it is free!
They are hoping to branch out to a nearby village soon to help advise and support expectant, new and existing mums in the rural surrounding areas as well as the main town. They are also are planning on implementing a 24/7 advice line for mums to ring about anything breastfeeding related, Sophie from the group said ‘any words of encouragement that keep that baby on the boob and off a bottle has to be worth being awoken at 2am for (surely)!’
To give mums more privacy they are working on starting a new drop in clinic 30 minutes before the main group starts – this would be in a separate room, secluded from prying eyes and completely confidential.
They are also hoping that the local midwives and health visitors will back their goal to start teaching the breastfeeding segment of the ante natal care course. This way they can get to interact with more pregnant women and hopefully open their eyes to the benefits of joining the breastfeeding community and showing them what a lovely inviting and relaxed atmosphere they have at their group.
