The Big Bristol Breastfeed was held on Saturday for the second year running. It was organised by mums who are trained breastfeeding peer supporters from Bristol and took place on the Downs to help raise awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding. NHS Bristol with the help of Barnardos launched the Breastfeeding Peer support service in 2010 training breastfeeding mums to offer information and support to other breastfeeding mums especially those having difficulties. The service has been extremely successful enabling more mothers to breastfeed and continue feeding their babies for longer.
The Big Bristol Breastfeed ran between 11 and 3 and more than 100 people attended ranging from trained breasfeeding peer supporters and their families as well as other mums including some who were experiencing difficulties feeding their babies. Trained peer supporters and breastfeeding counsellors were on hand to help.
The organisers hope it will return again next year!
