Nominate your favorite breastfeeding friendly business for a Lactivist friendly award.

Please nominate by commenting on the Lactivist Blog at www.lactivist.net/nominate-your-favorite-breastfeeding-friendly-business-for-a-lactivist-friendly-award/

This year I’m looking for nominations for your favorite breastfeeding friendly business, they can be online or in shop but they have to be a company you love!

When I have enough I’ll set up a voting system. I can’t accept nominations on Facebook or Twitter – there is a chance I’ll miss them.

  • Amy would love to nominate Veged Out cafe in Birmingham. They have a wall display about breastfeeding, including an ABM calendar, and they openly support the Nestle boycott I run Birmingham slingmeet and we have a lot of bf mamas feeding babies and toddlers. They let us use their space free of charge for our meets and have always been friendly and accommodating

Can I nominate Boobiemilk for their amazing work on the breastfeeding scavenger hunt. The amount of time and effort which went into that was extraordinary.

I’d like to nominate More4Mums – they have a great range of nursing bras, tops and dresses. Lynn is super-helpful with advice on sizing and fit and delivers really quickly too :)

I would like to nominate Able Fit Tyres in Longwell Green, Bristol. They might not be somewhere you go for a coffee or a relax but they were so friendly and helpful when I was waiting to have my tyres replaced and I felt very comfortable feeding my son (at the time 6 months old) in their waiting room.

I would like to nominate Esquires coffee – particularly in Lancaster. They are amazing, will bring food and drink to your table while you feed, fetch you a newspaper and generally treat you amazingly well. Fairtrade coffee and charity donations, a genuinely wonderful place with a heart of gold.

I want to nominate Embers Coffee House in Armagh as my Breastfeeding friendly business. This family run business in the centre of Armagh display their ‘Breastfeeding Welcome Here’ poster proudly in the window, and have always been fully supportive of Breastfeeding mums, and, in paerticular, really helpful to our local Breastfeeding support group. They provide a quiet space for mums who wish to feed in privacy, they have sponsored events for our local support group and happily let us host coffee mornings and fundraisers in their coffee house. They never mind when a group of us turn up and take over lots of space with babies, buggies and toddlers, and are really helpful, sympathetic and supportive of new mums. This coffee house have really helped lots of our group members to overcome their fears of feeding in public. I think their understanding must come from the fact that they have 6 children….all of whom were breastfed….they just get it!

I’ve decided to nominate Elsham Hall:
    http://www.elshamhall.co.uk/

It was the first place we went out to after my baby was born in April 2011. I was a bit nervous about feeding and the lady at the desk on the way in was really encouraging and supportive, she said if I got any grief about it I had to come and see her! The cafe staff were also really good and just acted like it was no big deal (which it isn’t!)It made a big difference to my confidence and since I had no negative reactions then, it was easier the next time. We’re still feeding now and it’s second nature to both of us.

I want to nominate Herbies in Exeter. They are a great little vegetarian restaurant who have gone out of their way to help. My son has multiple food allergies, and when I was still breastfeeding him, we both needed to avoid those foods, and Herbies always found us something gorgeous to eat. The cafe is great and they always offer you water if you are feeding. I never worry if I need to feed my little man, I just pop in there and get some yummy cake and go for it.

Hiya, you should check out Breastmates is an online store. They really do “get it” and understand mums, so supportive, plus an awesome range of prroducts. It took about 7 days for my order to arrive from them, which isn’t bad considering they are in NZ. the address is breastmates.co.nz

I second BoobieMilk. Karen put in a ton of work for the scavenger hunt, and continues to contribute lots to the breastfeeding community. She also has a wealth of knowledge about her product and gives great advice.

I’d also like to nominate Mamissima in Brighton’s North Laine. http://www.mamissima.co.uk

They sell a beautiful range of maternity and nursing outerwear and lingerie, and give great advice. Their dressing room is very baby and toddler friendly, with toys to keep them happy, which really helps. The woman serving me didn’t bat an eyelid that I was nursing a toddler, instead told him he was a very lucky boy and that she’d been breastfed till she was three. :)

  • dee copley

Dee Copley Krispy Kreme Leeds – their manager and deputy manager (both men) had normal conversations with me without seeming to notice me feeding my 16mth old. It’s so nice for people not to back away all emarrassed when they see you feeding an older baby. ‘Laura’ even offered to help me off with my coat as i was struggling to wriggle out of it while feeding the boy and checked later if i needed anything getting. Couldn’t be better x Please consider them as not just breast feeding friendly but breast feeding supporters x

  • I would like to nominate Thrupennybits please as I’ve just purchased a very portable bright green pillow from them I’ll be bringing to the hospital with me for when my little baby boy is born… I’ve my other breastfeeding pillow which is super but far too big and heavy to carry around. The Thrupennybits pillows do almost look like a bag and are super light – just the item I was looking for!
