New Cloth Nappy T-shirt at Lactivist – Comp ends 30th June 2011

Cloth Nappy Slogan T-shirt at LactivistI’m really happy to have a batch of short sleeved t-shirts in stock at Lactivist that promote real nappies!

In sizes 3-6, 6-12 and 12-18 months fairly traded soft and organic!

They cost £11.99 each and postage is just £2.50. The quality is fantastic and they last and last, just like real nappies they can be handed down to the next baby.

At Lactivist I have some free guides to using cloth nappies produced by the Natural Nursery to give away with orders – just let me know if you want one in the comments at the checkout.

To be in the draw to win one of these beautiful baby t-shirts just answer this question.

What is your top tip for using a cloth nappy?

Please leave your answer as a comment on www.lactivist.net and the winner will be drawn on the 30th June and notified by email.

Europe entrants only please!

Thank you for entering everyone there are some great tips there! The winner is Helen Walker who has been emailed.

My top tip is if you use pocket nappies and need extra absorbancy but are on a budget, rather than buying extra boosters that can be pricey, pop to you local supermarket and buy some microfible cleaning cloths at a fraction of the price! :)

Love the new t – shirt design! :)

My top tip is to use cloth wipes as well! Using disposable wipes means having to bag and bin them separately, but with cloth wipes you just roll them up in the nappy and chuck the whole lot into your nappy bucket ready for washing. They also take up less space in your changing bag (very useful as cloth nappies take up more room than disposables) as you only take out what you need rather than a whole packet of 60 like you would with disposable wipes. You can also make your own pretty cheaply out of flannels, fleece, muslins etc so you can have funky colours and patterns instead of just boring old white!

My first tip is not to listen to all the negative people around you saying its hard work, a flaff and messy – Its not! Like all things, once you have used something for a while you get the hang of it … and very quickly with nappies, fall in love!
Try different brands. Buy them second hand or borrow from friends – just to get a taste for what that nappy has to offer. No nappy is the same and every one will have a favourite. Once you have found a brand (or few!!) you like then spend the money on building your stash. Once you have found which nappy works for you and your little one, there is no turning back! I loved nothing more than having a coth bottom babe and was proud that I was doing something postive by using washable nappies. My most proudest moment was when 15 Motherease (my favs!) where hanging on the high line in my garden and two neighbours commented on how white and beautiful they looked in the sun! He he! So do not let anyone put you off. They are fun, easy and rewarding. Have a taster of nappies on the market – you will find a certain style which your love and enjoy having a baby which looks delish! Ooooh my biggest tip. Use washable wipes too. They are a great £££ saver and super kind to babies skin :) K Mew

My top tip would be to use a beer brewing bucket with a secure lid, lined with a laundry bag for dirty nappy storage. It keeps the smells in, and is easy to get them out and into the machine then. You can also add a cloth wipe with a few drops of tea tree oil to the bottom of the bucket to keep it smelling a bit fresher, and it’s also anti bacterial :)

My best tip is to hire a trial kit if possible before you spend any of your own money. The kit I hired included around 10 different nappies including pockets, all in ones & 2 parters. Different babies/ familes suit different nappies. We’ve settled for Bumgenius v3 which I bought for my daughter and now re-using with my son. Also if you buy nappies for your first baby, go for gender-neutral colours so they can be reused on your next baby!!! Make sure you check with your local council, they might do some kind of cloth nappy incentive, lots do!

My top tip is using washable wipes with your nappies! Some lovely soft Bamboo ones go down a treat, and it makes life so much easier than using disposable wipes. Make up your own Wipe solution using a few drops of an essential oil, and warm water – nothing could be simpler!

Another tip is using a nice fitted nappy, like the TB Stretchie, with a funky wrap at night times – helps baby sleep through! AND you get to use some pretty Gen-Y wraps, or similar…

    PS – LOVE the T-Shirt…

Treat yourself to extra pretty nappies – I LOVE nappy retail therapy. Also, involve yourself in real nappy events and groups online and in your area. In my experience I have had so much in common with most real nappy users! xx

My tip- give them a go! Shop around some bargains to be found, ebay was fab. I bought lots of different samples as didn’t know which ones to buy and now got full set cos I love them all and all for £ 60. Love the compliments I get when people realise! Wish I’d used them with no.1!

My top tip would be to get a water proof bag for popping used nappies in when you’re out and about. I was a big fazed about using them out of the house at first, then I was given a bag and it all seemed a bit easier! Give them a go! Real nappies are so easy once you get into the swing of them!

my top tip for starting out is to not buy lots of the same nappy! different nappies suit different babies and ii have seen lots of people put off by buying a bulk load of one brand/style and it hasnt suit their babies so they have given up ! :(

My top tip is to put a bit of tea tree oil in the nappy bucket to keep it and the nappies smelling fresh :)
