Moon Times is celebrating 20 years of making cloth pads this year- significant increase in sales over the last 10 years show how much more women are thinking about using more natural products and also reusable products- reusables are a win win product for women, in the long run you save money and you are creating less waste, having no chance of blocked drains from flushed tampons and (hopefully) you’ll never be ‘caught short’ and need to run to the shops in the middle of the night!

When I talk to women about my business, I still find a lot of resistance to reusables- the most open to them are  the ‘eco aware’ women and mums who have used washable nappies. It’s such a shame that so many women who when you talk to them about using something different than conventional throwaway tampons or pads they are really disgusting! But I have become so used to it that I can usually get them thinking – I suggest that a pile of 12,000 used pads and tampons is a lot more disgusting!

Our products are about empowering women in body appreciation, environmental awareness and self-respect through the use of eco menstrual products.

I believe a healthy appreciation of our bodies and ourselves as women can be learnt through menstruation. I believe when women are aware of the benefits of a sustainable, healthy, economically viable and comfortable alternative, they appreciate the contribution they can make by choosing alternative menstrual products. I also believe women deeply appreciate learning about alternative and positive ways to think about their bodies.

When I fist started to think about using something other than throwaways it was the late 80’s and advertising was telling us to shove a tampon up and get on with life- but my body was shouting at me to rest, regenerate and reflect while I was bleeding! Using washables has helped me connect more deeply to my moontime, and it certainly doesn’t want me to go roller blading!
