Every morning I wake up and sift through what the media have to say about breastfeeding just in case there is anything Lactivist newsworthy. There is plenty of coverage, but most of it is about bad things that have happened – mothers thrown out of cafes, been told to breastfeed in the toilet, told they are disgusting………
Enough is enough! Let’s tip the balance in the direction of the positive!
I don’t think hearing about terrible things that have happened because a mother decided to feed her baby breastmilk straight from the breast is going to help new mums feel confident about breastfeeding – what do you think?
Nice things do happen – there is a wonderful story of a lady who was given chocolate whilst breastfeeding in a restaurant on Lactivist.net and below it lots of positive breastfeeding in public stories that people have shared.
Lactivist will be focussing on the good things about breastfeeding for a while. The nice things that people say, the way that breastfeeding makes you feel.
Please share any happy, positive breastfeeding stories by commenting on http://www.lactivist.net/?p=3261 or on the Lactivist Facebook Page.

My DS is 18mths old. We’re still going strong. I have received many positive comments and am delighted that I live in Scotland where it is breaking the law to tell a woman to stop beastfeeding in public. I have fed The Boy everywhere and anywhere and have enjoyed it all. Now waiting to train to be a volunteer breastfeeding support worker.

I was sitting in a juice fridge at sainsbury’s- naughty, but i was desperate and nowhere else around. A staff member came along and i thought oh dear. However she said how lovely it was to see and how she wishrd she’d been so confident. Once i was feeding on the queue at the co-op and a woman also queuing offered to push my trolley and unload/reload my shopping. No-one has ever openly objected and i have fed five babies now for a total of 8 years and still going. i have fed on boats, buses, tubes and eurostar, in cafes shops eden biomes kwikfit mcds school playground……I was asked to move on at nct sale and stared at at eden project. Both ended up wishing they’d not bothered me. But i was not asked to stop and nor would i if asked. The commonest reaction from kids, sadly, is to ask what I am doing as here in plymouth is one of the lowest bf rates in country, well under 30 pc when last checked although some brilliant support groups here like latchon saltash and sue cheney at four woods centre.

Can i also mention lovely oxfam staff who let me feed in changing room in Helston branch on Flora Day during a shower? And a bad review for staff at plymouth city crntre cancer research shop who refused to let me although shop was empty and i’d just spent a tenner there- never been back and that was 3 years ago. Obviouslu unaware of health benefits and cancer prevention!

Church.my local church is great but still i was surprised i had such a kind response to bfing!
And especially one time in a supermarket..right at the till! somebody even unpacked my trolley for me,cashier packed it in bags, and everyone around (also men!)were nice and helpful!
Also, one that I remember clearly is on the photo as i receive my bf peer support certificate! But this was very appropriate though:)
Anyway,I breastfed almost everywhere, any time and I actually never had(or at least noticed)any bad responses.ppl hardly notice that’s what im doing(!!Important! Im not flashing my tits!!!) Im confident it’s ok and so it may just send a msg that it’s right! Had ppl almost kissing or peeking at the newborn (my 2nd one is 5wks now) until i told them sorry can’t show baby’s face as is being fed!
To everyone out there – just go for it!!
