Thank you Becky for flagging this up to me. I am really surprised that anyone would be proud to formula feed, proud enough to put their child in a bodysuit that said ‘Formula Powered’.
It is an american company so I don’t really know who to rant at about it.

Product description:
“Baby’s too young to get a tattoo, but he can still rock the look with this adorably edgy bodysuit! Tattoo-inspired graphics and 2-in-1 styling make it totally bad (in a good way!).”
Oh dear oh dear oh dear.
The Eco Childs Play blog have ranted too: “We all know breastfeeding is best for baby…and mama. Formula simply isn’t the healthy option. So, why doesn’t Old Navy know it?”
Anyway, I fumed about it for a while then I got googling and look what I found -
And then I was further saddened to find this question on Yahoo -
Would you let your baby wear this formula t-shirt from Old Navy?
“With the general opinion that the design is ‘cute’ and this reply – i am about to give birth any day and plan to formula feed my soni would totally let him wear this top
it’s funny
and if im honest i think thatanyone who has a problem with it should keep their opions to themselves as mothers we have a right to decide what best for our child and ourselves so they shouldnt be judging in the first place !
p.s im going to buy this top now ! i love it that much !”
But, if there was a top trumps for t-shirts that promote formula, I think this one would be the highest scorer!
though this is a close second
And I wonder if you get one of these free if you buy one of those

Words fail me!!

Why not just go with milk powered? Bizarre. No idea if this is useful info, but a quick google shows that Old Navy is a Gap Inc company.

I discovered this a few weeks ago and linked it to my FB page. There had already been TONS of negative comments on Old Navy’s site but I see now they have been deleted.

I guess this follows in the fine tradition of advertising anything and everything on our children’s clothing, from NASCAR to Dr. Pepper. Strange, though, I think the breastfeeding babies got their breastfeeding-friendly shirts first, through consumer demand. I can’t imagine a ground-swell of demand for baby clothes with bottles on them; after all, bottles are everywhere already!Do you think this is some kind of backlash?

Ha ha ha. The person trying to voice her support for it can’t even spell! Ha ha ha, what a dunce. Let’s all laugh at her.
This is nasty. I have plenty of private (and, on Yahoo! Answers, not-so-private) lolz at these types, at the mentality it takes to produce and to purchase shirts like these — but to make a blog post about it? No. This is some mean stuff; pointing out that stupid people are stupid like this, with nothing useful added, isn’t helping anybody.

So she thinks that as a mom she should get to decide what’s best for her child??? Sorry Princess, but even if you decide to feed your baby formula, breastmilk is still gonna be best. Your decision to formula feed doesn’t magically make formula better than breastmilk.

Lol @ AnnaC. That is so, so true! I just can’t understand why anyone would put their child in any of these clothes, though I did find the zombie one fitting, given some of the formula feeders I’ve come across. I’ll bet they are not designed with cloth bums in mind!

I don’t mind the bottle pictures SO much since my little boy has them (containing only the finest human milk) when the boobies are unavailable at work but explicitly using the word ‘formula’ is really odd to me. It’s just such an artificial word! i.e. it might as well say “I feed my child chemically altered cow’s milk”! I got given a tee shirt with ‘baby milk monster’ on it with little bottles as a pattern and i didn’t think too much of it at the time but i am a little bit offended now! Maybe we should make one decorated with boobs… see how that goes down!! X

Reading all your comments it makes me so sad that I couldnt breast feed. I wasnt aware that I was putting my child at a higher risk of cancer. It really offends me the phrase “I feed my child chemically altered cow’s milk” etc, some people had no choice.

In response to the Old Navy “Formula Powered” onesie and the lack of a breastfeeding version, my husband and I created an alternative for all the parents of babies who feel excluded and upset that they are not represented. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to La Leche League to help them further breastfeeding support and education. Please repost and share! http://www.zazzle.ca/nicolebross

Wow, that first comment ; I’m surprised that anyone would be proud to formuala feed’ what a judgemental statement. I did choose to breastfeed my two daughters but I struggle every day to understand how any mother could judge another mother so harshly. Choosing to formula feed your child does not make you a bad mother. Being a good mother has many more factors than the way we feed. We all know Breast is Best but many women can’t or just feel that they don’t want to and I really do believe that it’s ok. A good friend of mine was constantly in tears as she couldn’t bear the thought of breastfeeding and felt pressure from absolutely everybody. It ruined the early days of her son’s life as she was too embarrassed to be seen feeding him from a bottle and worried more about the opinions of others rather than of what was most important, That she was making the right choice for her and her baby, she wasn’t saying bottle is best she was making the choice to do what she needed in order to parent. She is a wonderful loving mum and would do anything for her son and doesn’t feel that breastfeeding would have made things any better.
