Hello,
I breastfed my daughter until she was 2 years and three months.
Although it seemed common sense to me that breast milk is best, I was tremendously relieved to find so much evidence to support this theory because I couldn’t be bothered to sterilise bottles and mix formula!
Honestly, what would any sleep-deprived new mother rather do at 3:00am: mix and heat a bottle of formula or lift her nightshirt?
It also made travelling much easier. I had my hands full on a trans-Atlantic flight with a two-month old and all the nappies, the infant carrier, etc. Thank goodness I didn’t need to pack bottles!
My advice to new mothers (if they are able to breastfeed) would be, “Don’t make things harder than they need to be. Breastfeed!”
Sincerely,
Erika
P.S. It might just be coincidence, but my daughter didn’t get her first ear infection until three months after we stopped nursing. She also didn’t catch my colds while we were nursing.

i toatally agree with you. when baby wakes up during night and at times more than once, who really want to leave to bed. with breastfeeding i don’t evn get cold feet. also hungry baby crys don’t wake up entire house while the kettle is boiling.
never thought i’d breast feed but it was the best thing i ever did. 4 months on and i can’t imagin shoving an ugly looking bottle in her mouth. while we all had cold and winter illnesses little ellie didn’t even get a runny nose.
besides i’m far too laxy to be bothered with bottles and all that cleaning.
as long as i have clean clothes, nappies and wetwipes i can stay out for as long as i need without ever running out of milk.

I’m the same. With three other kids in the house, during the night is the only time I really feel I get quality cuddle time with my wee one and breastfeeding is such a ‘loving’ strong bonding experience. If I was using bottles then others would be able to take a turn to feed but I’m actually quite selfish in that I don’t want to share my feeding time with anyone else. I fully agree it is especially handy when travelling!

Once you start, keep in mind that nursing shouldn’t be painful. When your baby latches on, pay attention to how your breasts feel. If the latching on hurts, break the suction then try again. You should nurse quite frequently, as the more you nurse th…
