BoobBaby – new breastfeeding shop!

BoobBaby is a brand new website supplying a range of breastfeeding accessories including breast pumps, milk storage equipment, breastfeeding cushions, scarf’s, pro-breastfeeding t-shirts and bags and a lot more. We are stockists of Medela, Avent, Lansinoh, Mamascarf, Dreamgenii, Lactivist and we also stock a range of breastfeeding books from publishers Pinter and Martin. The website also includes a resource centre, which aims to provide information and advice to mothers who are breastfeeding and also to pregnant ladies who are hoping to breastfeed. BoobBaby is a small, family business run by myself, Sarah Appleton, along with my husband Ryan. We pride ourselves in not only providing quality products at competitive prices, but also offering outstanding customer service.

The idea for the website came about after my experience in trying to establish breastfeeding with my son. After a traumatic birth, which ended in an emergency caesarean and me losing 2.5 litres of blood and being very poorly, we found it difficult to get breastfeeding going. It was made harder as my son lost too much weight after birth, resulting in a trip back to hospital. This completely knocked my confidence in my ability to feed and nourish my son and I was very close to giving up breastfeeding altogether. However, after a stern word from a midwife and as a result of my stubborn nature we stuck at it and have not looked back since. Nearly 10 months down the line we have a happy little boy who still loves his boob. As a result of my experience I have become increasingly passionate about breastfeeding and think that there needs to be more support for women who want to breastfeed, but are finding it difficult.

There is a wealth of excellent breastfeeding information and advice on the Internet, and also excellent telephone support from breastfeeding charities. However I have found it difficult to find straightforward information quickly. Also, whilst most companies who sell breastfeeding equipment and accessories provide some information about breastfeeding, I found this information to be lacking in some substance. So the aim of Boob Baby is to not only supply breastfeeding accessories, but to also provide information and advice about breastfeeding that is easy to read and easy to find quickly.

So pop over and have a look at our website at www.boobbaby.co.uk and should you have any feedback we would be happy to hear from you, just drop us an email info@boobbaby.co.uk we are also on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pages/BoobBaby/120480961339668?ref=nf and Twitter http://twitter.com/BoobBaby

Goidellick Designs Pro-Breastfeeding T-shirts

Goidellick Designs is a tiny family run business. We run our business from our remote farm cottage in the Highlands of Scotland.

We have three children who are educated at home. We decided to start up our own business to allow us to be at home with the children. We wanted this business to reflect our values and opinions. We are enthusiastic about breastfeeding, home education and environmental issues. Through these interests we came up with our range of shirts and bags.
We’re now running a busy household full of children and cats and trying to promote our business too.

At long last!

Gillian Rapley’s book on Baby Led Weaning is now available for pre-order from Amazon.co.uk.

Baby Led Weaning

In case you don’t already know about baby-led weaning, the idea is quite simple. Ditch the purees and the weaning spoons and pots and let your baby feed her/himself. Let your baby set her/his own timetable and decide how much or how little s/he wants!

From the Amazon review:

Contrary to popular belief there is no research supporting the introduction of solids by food purees. Baby-led weaning is a safe and enjoyable alternative using whole foods, and with an emphasis on exploring taste, texture, colour and smell. The beauty of baby-led weaning is that it is tailored to suit each particular baby and their personal development. Self-feeding supports your baby’s motor development, such as their hand-eye coordination and chewing and encourages the child towards independence, often providing a stress-free alternative to mealtime battles.”Baby-led Weaning” – written by Gill Rapley, the UK’s leading expert on baby-led weaning – explodes the myth that babies need to be spoon-fed and shows why self-feeding from the start is the healthiest way for your child to develop. Your baby is allowed to decide how much he wants to eat, how to eat it and to experiment with everything at his own pace. This practical and authoritative guide offers a new approach to introducing solid food, shaping your child’s eating habits to make him a happy, confident and independent eater.

BLW as an idea has been around for quite a while now so it’s great that there’s finally a book.

Full of hilarious comics about breastfeeding, babywearing, attachment parenting and other “being nice to babies” stuff in general.

She always has an interesting take on news items and products – and it will always make you think – for example see:

Where Hathor wonders if the “breastfeeding chair” in the news at the moment is such a fabulous idea.

MamaNana – Nurse in Style

Once upon a time there was a French woman married to an American man, and they had their first baby in Berkeley, California, one of the breastfeeding capitals of the world. The French woman conscientiously tried to follow all the instructions and advice she had received to start off breastfeeding correctly, but she still ended up with painful crevasses due to baby’s not being in the right position for latch-on. All this made the first few weeks of breastfeeding very difficult. She was saved from suffering only by her valiant husband, who went out to buy her the latest innovation in breastfeeding accessories : the My Brest Friend™ nursing pillow. After a few days using this nursing pillow, baby was in the perfect position for latch-on, the crevasses disappeared, and mommy was radiant ! Later the young woman, naturally style-conscious and wanting to get out of the nightgowns that she had spent most of her time wearing since the birth, went on the internet and ordered a nursing wardrobe that delighted her. She was able to nurse with style and ease for many, many months to come. Two years later, the second baby arrived, but this time in France. To her great surprise, the young woman discovered that breastfeeding wasn’t as widely practiced in France as it is in the United States. What’s more, not only was the My Brest Friend™ pillow not available, but nursing garments were practically unheard-of. Two of her close friends borrowed her My Brest Friend™ nursing pillow and were delighted with it. Another of her friends borrowed her nursing clothes, and ordered even more directly from the United States.

The young woman and her husband said to themselves : things can’t go on this way! It’s up to us to let French women benefit from the wonderful nursing clothes, nursing pillows, and accessories that women already enjoy in many other countries. So in mid-2005 they launched the French version of the mamaNANA website. An English-language version was launched in early 2007.

Thank you for visiting our website. We would love to hear from you, so feel free to contact us with any questions, comments, or suggestions you may have.

Best regards, Ségolène and Drew

Lait d’Amour – Making Breastfeeding Fashionable

Lait D’Amour – making breastfeeding fashionable

Mandy Lelliott has a passion for making breastfeeding easier for mums. The mother of two from Surrey runs Lait d’Amour, with the aim of spreading the message that “breast is best”. She has created some handy products that are attractive and fun, and help mums deal with the practicalities of giving their baby a great start in life. Mandy explains, “Lait d’Amour is making breastfeeding fashionable and promoting breastfeeding awareness with the help of my products including Nursing Necklaces and Booby Reminder® bracelets.”

Mandy created Booby Reminder® bracelets to help mums remember which breast to feed from next. Alternating breasts ensures that baby gets a full feed, with both the thirst quenching fore milk and the creamy hind milk which is packed full of goodness and growth hormones. The attractive bracelets carry the text, ‘This Boob Next’, and can be personalised with your baby’s name. Simply swap the bracelet to the other side after you’ve fed, and you’ll know where to start for the next feed. Mandy says, “I created the Booby Reminder® bracelet and founded Lait d’Amour in 2005, to provide mums with great information about breastfeeding. Breastfeeding mums don’t get enough support and encouragement, and so I became an advocate.”

Lait d’Amour is run from Mandy’s home. She sells through her own online store and via eBay. Mandy comments, “It started as a hobby. Now my team and I spend many hours a week making up the products. I aim to send products out the next day, even if it means I’m up until 1am some nights.” As well as the Booby Reminder® bracelets, Mandy has created another best seller. She says, “Jingle Boobs necklaces are the most popular item on my site. Choose from a range of colours to match your outfits or appeal to a little one. Wear the necklace when you feed and the brightly coloured beads can entertain your little one. Choose black, white and red beads to stimulate their visual development, or chunky animals and jingly bells for fun. The hemp strung nursing necklaces have passed safety testing to BSEN 71-1:2OO5 clause 5.1 (toy standards) and reached 185N tension without breaking.”

Mandy has selected some excellent products like the Lilypadz breast pads to complement her own creations, making Lait d’Amour the place to shop for every mum who wants to breastfeed. Mandy says, “Breastfeeding has brought so much to my life and to my children’s lives and future health. I was never very confident but watching my children grow on my milk has brought out the best in me. As a result I want to share my ‘breast is best’ campaign with the world.” Visit Mandy’s eBay store, simply called Lait d’Amour, or check out her own website, http://www.laitdamour.eu/
