Nominate your favorite breastfeeding friendly business for a Lactivist friendly award.

Please nominate by commenting on the Lactivist Blog at www.lactivist.net/nominate-your-favorite-breastfeeding-friendly-business-for-a-lactivist-friendly-award/

This year I’m looking for nominations for your favorite breastfeeding friendly business, they can be online or in shop but they have to be a company you love!

When I have enough I’ll set up a voting system. I can’t accept nominations on Facebook or Twitter – there is a chance I’ll miss them.

Please vote for MoonTimes in the Green Directory Awards

Lactivist sponsor www.moontimes.co.uk has been nominated for the Green Directory Pea-ples Favourite awards- ‘The PEA-ple’s Favourite’ Award recognises the importance of individual recommendations so rather than being judged by a panel of experts, it’s voted for by the general public!

Please vote for them here- http://www.mygreendirectory.info/voting/pea-ples-favourite.php  and ask your friends to vote too!!

Lactivist sponsors pay towards the running costs of this site and for the printing of flyers with supportive breastfeeding help and information on. Without Lactivist sponsors there would be no Lactivist.

Loved by Lactivists – free printable award certificate for outstanding breastfeeding support.

Favorite Breastfeeding Pages and Groups on Facebook? (Award time!)

Facebook is full of lovely supportive breastfeeding groups. Here at Lactivist I wanted to acknowledge them for their great work but I need your help.

Please leave a comment on www.lactivist.net with a link to your favorite group.

Then click the like button on the other groups you like.

You might find some new ones, or some old friends.

Please check that you are not nominating someone who has already been nominated because I will delete doubles. (It will just be impossible to see who is being voted for otherwise)

Please don’t vote for Lactivist on Facebook – I can’t award myself :-)

The group or page with the most ‘likes’ will win the right to use this – but I’ll put the name of the group in it!

Please make sure the group you are linking to is not a closed group – a lot of the breastfeeding pages on Facebook are closed to make them safe from closure.

If your group gets nominated please feel free to use this:

Lactivist.net runner up Blog of the Year 2010

Thank you so much to everyone that voted for www.lactivist.net in the Bundle Jungle Work at Home Mum Awards 2010.

Lactivist is a runner up for Blog Of The Year 2010!

I am so proud to get this award, a lot of work goes into Lactivist and it is nicer than I thought it would be to have that recognised.

There was some very stiff competition and all the other nominees are great bloggers – Analytical Armadillo, Dr Momma, Single Dad Laughing and And Three Makes Family

and the winner was Really Pants which is a number 1 resource for real nappy news, reviews, product launches and competitions! They now have 3 new fantastic real nappy using contributors who will be reviewing products and writing feature articles.

Thank you again for voting – if you haven’t checked out www.thebundlejungle.com yet it is worth doing to meet very friendly approachable and knowledgeable people.

Lactivist has been nominated for an award – please vote for me :-)

It made my day this morning to be told that www.lactivist.net has been nominated for for “Blog Of The Year 2010″ in The Bundle Jungle Work At Home Mum Awards 2010.

All the other nominees are brilliant, and I am very proud to be in such esteemed company.

The Bundle Jungle WAHM awards have been created to give recognition to small businesses or individuals with a natural parenting, ethical trading or environmentally friendly focus.

Winners announced! Awards for best breastfeeding friendly forums.

Thank you to everyone who nominated and voted for the best breastfeeding friendly forum.

Because of technical difficulties at the start of the voting I am awarding the Mother’s Milk Marketing Board Seal of Approval to the top 3 forums.

So the winners are:

Natural Mamas

Congratulations to Natural Mamas which is  a natural parenting forum with an emphasis on babywearing. A Natural Mama is a mama that listens to her instinct. A Natural Mama is more likely to: cosleep, breastfeed, babywear, use gentle discipline, home educate, use complementary medicine, do BLW. BUT you do not need to be doing all (or any) of them. It is not a fixed box that you either fit in or not.

Natural Mamas was nominated because:

“It’s a natural parenting forum with an amazing breastfeeding support board. Members who contribute are lactation consultants, midwives, breastfeeding peer supporters as well as breastfeeding mothers. The range of breastfeeding topics covered is second to none and the support is phenomental, with lots of experience as well as good non-judgemental evidence based advice. I love it!!”

I want my mum

I Want My Mum was started in December 2004 by two mothers, Charlotte Young (breastfeeding counsellor) and Annalisa Barbieri. The idea came about because, having had children the year before, they were rather surprised and frustrated at the conflicting information about the important subject of bringing up baby.

As new mothers it is hard to read all the latest research for yourself. There are lots of parenting sites (some of them very good) but a great many of them perpetuate myths or aren’t manned by ‘real’ people, a lot may be just open message forums based on purely the opinions of other users. They aim to do things differently at IWMM. There are two very real mothers behind the scenes who are busy reading the latest research on aspects of child feeding, sleep and development; supported by a team of moderators selected for their experience in that particular field and a team of professionals including Breastfeeding Counsellors, a Bereavement Counsellor, Speech and Language Therapists, a SCBU Nurse, Pharmacist & Midwives

I want my mum was nominated because:

“I’m someone who’s found the information and support there invaluable in successful breastfeeding, helping me meet other like-minded mums IRL, and having a great resource to recommend to expectant mums. Without their support I may well have stopped ( or at least tried to stop, my daughter would have a lot to say about it!) feeding my youngest, but instead we’ve past 2 yrs, still going strong and still finding the info there fab.
Knowing that info on there is evidence-based, moderators include fully qualified breastfeeding counsellors who DO check the veracity of statements made. The emphasis is information, not advice, and a very friendly place to ask important questions.”

Mama Pack Forum

Mama Packs are the United Kingdoms ONLY ethically influenced, trade marked Mum & Baby sample pack. A pack you wont find nasty chemicals in, a pack you will love receiving!

Mama Pack Forum was nominated because:

“The ladies there have such a wealth of experience and a geniuine love for the benefits of breast feeding that I have been greatly encouraged to keep breastfeeding, despite my child being seriously ill and in an incubator when born and later whilst she underwent major surgery. Now I am BFing past the age I had previously thought ‘normal’ and my child is thriving!”

Thank you so much to everyone who took part in this!

Natural Mamas, IWMM and Mama Pack Forum may now display the Mother’s Milk Marketing Board seal of approval! It can only be used by people who win it!

Best Breastfeeding Blogs – Analytical Armadillo wins Award

Whilst The Analytical Armadillo blog only started in July this year, the author is no newbie to breastfeeding and parenting. Her easy to read and understand style has meant the blog has quickly become extremely popular worldwide, and not just for those breastfeeding.

Subjects include reflux , waterbirths , SIDS and safe formula feeding.

The Analytical Armadillo has been awarded the Mothers Milk Marketing Board Seal of Approval for these reasons:

  1. The quality of research backed information about breastfeeding
  2. Personal experiences and anectdotes shared
  3. Willingness to go out there and post about ‘dangerous’ subjects.

Congratulations Analytical Armadillo – you can now display the Mothers Milk Marketing Board Seal of Approval with pride!

Favorite Breastfeeding Resources on the net?

I just thought it would be nice to have a UK equivalent to http://thestir.cafemom.com/baby/109270/50_best_breastfeeding_resources_on

So, what are your favorite breastfeeding resources? I’d put www.kellymom.com at the very top, followed closely by Jack Newmans site.

I’d love it if you say Lactivist.net but you don’t need to because it is my list :-)
