This is a tweet from the British Medical Journal to Breastfeeding advocates The Leaky Boob. It admits that the article recently published that suggests that exclusive breastfeeding may not be enough for babies was ‘interpreted differently in press’ and that it is an ‘opinion piece’.
Sadly, I do not think this fact will be newsworthy.

I thought that article was such a load of crap. Breastfeeding causes iron deficiency? Where did they get this? Did they only look at starving societies in 3rd world countries? Way to tell people something completely wrong. If babies were meant to wean at 4 months why do they still want it? My nephew was weaned at 3 months and when I breastfeed my daughter around him he lunges for my other boob and he’s a year old and is constantly sick, has a fever, and has snot running down his face and he is allergic to everything. Ill stick with bf my four month old exclusively until she is 7 months for solids then self weans.

Infuriating that it was sold to the American public as fact. Was Gerber behind this?

When will people realize that if baby needs it, it’s in mama’s milk. End of story. With few exceptions, naturse know’s what it is doing and babies need nothing but breastmilk to survive and thrive!

I think people are confusing the introduction of solids with the cessation of breastfeeding — introducing solids doesn’t mean stopping breastfeeding. Milk remains the primary source of nutrition well after solids are introduced. In the early days, giving solids is more about exposing the baby to new tastes and textures. And solids don’t have to be commercial baby food. When I introduce solids to my son, I’ll prepare it all myself.
