I dont understand what the big deal is with breastfeeding – its totally natural, hurts for a the first week and then its so much easier (no sterilising etc) and best of all its so much better for the baby, why would any mother want to put cows milk in their child (it takes so much longer to digest – formula makes the baby constipated!), cows milk is made for cows!!!! Its been scientifically proven that BF is better for the child – why would any mother not want to at least give it a try and if they literally cant do it then at least they have tird. Most women I find give up after a week which, it hurts but you have to percivere with it. I just weaned my son at 19 months (I could have carried on) I breast fed everywhere I went and I didn’t care what anyone thought – isn’t my sons health more important than what people think? I loved breafeeding, the cuddles in the morning and the comfort he got from it.
Dont get me wrong – Im no hippy, earthy mother type – far from it, I like shopping, dressing up, going out clubbing and having fun, but if your having a child why would you not want to give that child the best start in life? I know that when my son is ill he recovers so quickly, hes never been constipated and he only been sick for a short time as his immune system is strong, that is enough evidence for me that I have done the right thing. I dont like the sterotypical image that people portray of breastfeeding, it doesnt have to be done in peoples faces, it can be done discretely. nothing worse than seeing a newborn with a big ugly bottle of formula in its mouth – especially when the mother has plenty of milk herself!
