Dear Aunty Lactivist I was wondering if anyone could help, I’ve had extreme pain over my breast, under arm and round on my back like really bad sunburn. Been to the doctor who thinks it could be the start of shingles (still waiting for rash) I’m still feeding my son. I don’t want to give up but in so much pain. Seems impossible to find a position that doesnt hurt. J
You poor thing.
Whatever it is, I’m of the opinion that if it hurts, take painkillers, but you may not like that idea. Go back to your gp if it doesn’t go or a rash doesn’t show. could you express from that side for a while and feed only from the other side?

If it’s possible that it’s shingles, then it could be passed to your little one as chicken pox – he needs your antibodies now more than ever!
Saying that, I understand the whole pain problem (my youngest son was VERY difficult to feed for a long time.) Ibuprofen is my drug of choice when it comes to pain. You can even use it in a gel form which is less likely to be passed to your son so much. Definitely go back if it doesn’t improve.
