Ask Aunty Lactivist – Milk Production and Explosive Poos

Aunty Lactivist is all of us so if you have experience that might help, know of any good books or links or just have an idea please share it.

Dear Aunty Lactivist.
I’m looking for some advice. I’m concerned that my milk production is down as I never feel full anymore. Baby’s feeding has been all over the place the last few nights.
Also he’s having explosive poos that burst out of his nappy and stain his clothes every time. Any ideas how to contain the poo and also to remove the stains?
Thanks
V

    Hi,
I use napisan…it gets my sons vests white again. Also my husband swears by lifting up the flaps on the inside of nappies to make sure they keep the poo in.
How old is your LO? I found that my breasts softened after a month or so even though they were still full.

    Hi Lex,
Do you mean the flaps around the tops of the legs? The poo mainly shoots up his back as there is a little gap when he sits on his bum. I’ll give the Napisan a go though.
He’s 7 months old now. They used to feel full before a feed but now they’re really squishy. I’m just worried that my milk production isn’t what it used to be which might explain why he’s increased his feeds during the nights.

Are the poos green and frothy? If so feed more from the same side so baby gets more of the higher calorie less watery milk, this should reduce the frothyness. If just ‘normal’ breast feeding poos then napisan and drying in the sun will work wonders. ?Cloth nappies? they always contained for my little ones where the disposable ones failed.
