Dear Aunty Lactivist
Hi there got a question, a friend of mine asked me about increasing milk supply as she found her milk literally dried up at 3 months with first child and 6 weeks with second, I know obviously expressing and growth spurts but hers literally dried up I’ve told her about fenugreek supplements and to avoid alka seltzer as they apparently dry milk up, obviously feed on demand and so on, I know it sounds mad as milk doesn’t usually do that but she was gutted to stop feeding when it went she tried expressing as well as feeding on demand Nd nothing at all not even a drop came out…. Any other tips that I can pass on would be greatly appreciative, many thanks girls
xx
What can we do to help this Mum?

She should cuddle her baby lots and lots. Walking round with baby in a sling helps to improve supply.
She also needs to remove or lessen any stresses in her life. If she’s too busy, and not focused enough on her baby, that might be causing the problem.
If she needs to be separate from her baby she should carry photos to look at every so often – thinking about your baby helps with milk supply.

Here are some replies from the :
Fenugreek!! And also lots of fresh fruit and plenty of water, and good quality protein like chicken breast seems to make it richer and mroe satisfying (from my experience) But one thing with fenugreek, don’t take it routinely because it can cause oversupply. wait until you feel your supply lagging. regards general foods, lots of fruit, veg, healthy oils and good quality proteins. and have some fenugreek on standby just in case
Lots of skin to skin, feeding on demand, drink lots of water, avoid sage (things like stuffing)
