Dear Aunty Lactivist, I live in Brighton, Sussex, where I understand that Lactivists are quite active. Are you aware of anywhere that I can either buy (cheaply) or hire (ditto) an electric breast pump in that area? I don’t find the manual ones so good. Any information would be really helpful. My little one, is exclusively breast fed and is 3 months old and I want to continue but just need a bit of help expressing in the short term. Thanks!

Hi there, I’m not in Brighton but there is some excellent local help there and I’d like to encourage you to access it if you need any support or info. Also if the requirement for the double elec pump isn’t for long term milk production or short term time-crucial expressing then I would recommend you master hand expressing – cheaper, cleaner and crucially the milk is of better quality than that obtained by pump – it’s richer and more calorific. There’s also no guarantee you’d get on better with any given elec pump than a manual one – they are all different!
A decent peer supporter or LC will be able to inform on technique and support you one to one.
