Dear Aunty Lactivist. I wonder if you can help! My 15 week old will only breastfeed whilst she is lying down! I think it’s to do with her teething. I do co sleep and feed laying down at night but I dont feel thats the cause. Nothing has triggered it that I can see but when I try to feed her on my lap she writhes out of the position and then cries. When she feeds she is easily distracted and likes to kick about as she’s very active. I have tried expressing but she doesn’t really understand the bottle as food so plays with it as a tasty toy. H
I only fed my daughter lying down for months – I would worry when we were out because I didn’t want to find myself lying down on the floor in the mall! I slowly worked with her to feed in different positions. It took a while but we got there. She might find lying down more efficient or comfortable.
I recommend trying a few positions to see which suits her best.

I had exactly the same thing happen with Oscar, couldn’t leave the house for more than a few hours from around 3-6months! What I eventually did was insist all feeds that were not taken at nap times had to be taken sitting up, at first we sat up in bed, there was a lot of fuss at first, he would arch his back and scream and refuse to keep still, and I had even forgotten how to hold him properly and he’d grown considerably in that time, but the desire for boob did eventually win over the desire to lie down and he did give in, I must admit it didn’t happen over night and quite often I would give in to him, but every time I’d offer him the boob sitting up FIRST and eventually he did decide it was just easier to take it without any fuss. it was a wile longer before we could feed out of the bedroom
but we got there x
