All over the country Saturday, 20th May at 1pm

Little Angels and Natasha Gower are looking for area co-ordinators to arrange a local "Nurse In". At this time all mothers around the UK will join for a national "Big Feed" to celebrate breastfeeding and to raise the awareness of a baby's right to eat in public. Each town / area will be able to join in the national nurse in and raise awareness locally and at a national level.

Blackpool

Monday 15th May Milk Bank Workshop Wirral Mothers’ Milk Bank at Blackpool Breastfeeding Centre

Blackpool Breastfeeding centre runs workshops each month and has arranged a talk by Wirral Mothers Milk Bank on Monday 15th May at the start of Breastfeeding Awareness Week. The workshop starts at 12.30pm and runs till 2pm and is held at Palatine Library and Learning Centre, Blackpool. Everyone is welcome. Bring lunch or order from the ‘butty run’. BfN runs Blackpool Breastfeeding centre in partnership with local health visitors and midwives.


Saturday 20th Blackpool’s Big Feed La Leche League

Claire Webb, from the La Leche League, has organised a Big Feed at the Solaris Café, new south promenade, Blackpool for the Saturday at the end of Breastfeeding Awareness week. The aim is to get as many breastfeeding mums together at the same time as other Big Feed’s being held around the country. All are welcome meet at 11.30am - 1.30pm, Saturday 20th May. Come and celebrate and find out about local groups.


Art competition - Breastfeeding Network in Blackpool

An art competition has been organised by Jo Hankinson, a trainee Supporter with the BfN, as an outreach venture from Blackpool Breastfeeding Centre. Entries are being received from all sectors of the community - paintings, drawings, posters, computer art, collage and 3D. The art will be displayed at various locations throughout Blackpool during Breastfeeding Awareness Week, including libraries, cafes, the hospital and a shopping centre. All entrants will receive a certificate and the overall winners will receive prizes of MP3 players and a trophy.


Displays in Houndshill Shopping centre, Blackpool

Talbot and Brunswick Sure Start are putting up breastfeeding information displays in the Hounds Hill Shopping precinct during the week, on Monday 15th and Thursday 18th from 11am till 1pm.


Hospital antenatal sessions

There will be displays during the antenatal sessions at the hospital on Monday 15th from 1.30 - 5pm, Tuesday 16th from 9.30 - 5pm, and Friday 19th 9.30 - 12.30. Volunteers from La Leche League and the BfN will help midwives man the displays and will be happy to chat to any mums who have any queries. Some artwork will be on display too. Parentcraft and infant feeding advisor Dawn Burrows will be on hand at all sessions.

Bluewater, Kent

Lait D'Amour is organising an event to promote breastfeeding.

We are meeting at Bluewater, Kent for a 'mass feed' on the 20th of May at 1pm.

Castleford Bosom Buddies peer support group organising a nurse-in as part of Little Angels ‘Big Feed’ at Charlton Lanes Shopping Centre Castleford. The group will have a shop unit providing local information from 10am to 2 pm.

Smiley Friday Fleetwood Sure Start

On Friday 19th May Fleetwood Sure Start is holding a Smiley Friday morning about dental health, at Milton Stcommunity, 10 - 12 noon. They will also be raising awareness about how breastfeeding helps strong tooth formation and jaw development.

Sukie Woodhouse, trainee Supporter with the BfN and artist, will be making casts of babies’ hands and feet at Fylde Breastfeeding Centre on Tuesday 16th May.

Ryde, Isle of Wight

The square outside of Somerfield, Ryde, Isle of Wight on Sat 20th may between 1-2pm and there will be a drop in session at the George Street Centre, George Street, Ryde, Isle of Wight on Tues 16th May between 10am -1pm. We are South!

Tuesday 16th May Grange Park Sure Start are having a stand with freebies and games on the grass opposite Chepstow shops on Chepstow Avenue, Grange Park, on Tuesday 16th 10 - 12noon.

We're going to be holding our 'Big Feed' Event in Thornton Thornton Cleveleys, Lancs - and it is being arranged by the BfN & Wyre PCT's Wyre Breastfeeding Support Centre which is held at the Medical Centre, Church Road Thornton every Wednesday from 12 till 1.45pm. The Nurse In static protest won’t be outside Buckingham palace etc as it is property that belongs to the Royal Family and therefore Special Branch will not allow protests either there or in the parks. So the plan is to meet at Dept of Health or just next to it for a static protest = so banners etc welcome!! And then six of us to go onto Downing Street, which is across the road to petition Mr Blair to support the bill to end the discrimination against breastfeeding mothers and children. Wednesday 17th Antenatal session for Wyre mums Wyre Breastfeeding Centre

Breastfeeding supporters in Wyre are planning a special antenatal class for the Wednesday of Breastfeeding Awareness Week, May 17th. The session will run at Thornton Medical Centre from 10.30 till 11.30 and is being especially targeted at women from the rural areas of Over Wyre, who have few opportunities to meet up together. Those attending will be invited to stay to the Breastfeeding Centre that starts at 12 noon so they can meet up with some local breastfeeding mums.

Wyre Breastfeeding Centre has arranged a pub lunch at the Tavern by the Mill, Thornton for Friday 19th May to celebrate Breastfeeding Awareness week! Time to relax with mums and babies. All welcome, meet at 12 noon.
