From the 6th July 2009 to the 14th October the fourth plinth at Trafalgar Square will have someone standing on it for an hour, every hour. It is a performance art show led by artist Antony Gormley and it is called One or Other.
One small step in promoting breastfeeding was taken by Jilly who wore her Lactivist Mummy Milk Rocks T-shirt at the base of the plinth in Trafalgar Square on Mon 13th July. They were holding a Quaker Meeting for Worship for the hour 5-6pm. Quakers meet in silence with opportunities for people to speak if they feel moved. It was a Plinth of Peace.
I am so proud to be associated with this in any way, a lot of the participants have done funny things like crochet or talk on their mobiles for their hour but I think the Bridgend Quakers really used their time valuably. If only everyone spent their hour wishing for peace, I hope they have set a precident.
If anyone has a photo of Jilly in her t-shirt please send it to me, I know she is in the crowd below!
